Congratulations to the Winners
of the Buyer's Guide Cover-Up |

The Buyer’s Guide recent Cover-Up Contest challenged readers to find their ugliest chairin desperate need of reupholstering. The entries ranged from recliners that had seen too many seasons of bowl games to a leftover chair from college dorm days. Many of our readers’ chairs were too ugly to donate, but too precious to dump. By submitting a picture of their ugly chair and telling us in 100 words or less why their chair should win (lose?) the Cover-Up contest, contestants had a chance to win a free professional chair reupholstering from Van Dorn Upholstery, located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Our contest promotions announced only one winner for this contest, but since the Cover-Up Contest was so popular, the Buyer’s Guide decided to choose second and third place winners as well, who received $50.00 and $25.00 dining certificates to local restaurants.

I was assembled and adopted by my family almost 35 years ago when I was young and good looking. Over the years, I have moved nine times; lived in five states and three foreign countries; rocked to sleep three restless children; been napped on by numerous cats and dogs; collected everything from loose change to green peas; and provided my master with a safe haven in which to relax. I am warm, cozy and represent the essence of family, which is love. I’m just very tired, worn and a tad uglythat’s all. Please help me with a makeover!

Our Favorite Ugly Old Red Chair
Time was when our red chair was newly upholstered. That was when I was in school…many years ago. Since then, I’ve sat on my sweetheart’s lap in that chair as he proposed and held my infant son there. Grandma and Grandpa have held their grandson as he has grown, and my son has now claimed it as his territory. It has moved from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Minnesota to Virginia with our family. Now the seat cushion is leaving a powdery yellow residue! The fabric is faded, pilled, stained and worn, but the chair still sturdy and well loved.

My daughter has always been a very messy eater and spreads her food everywhere including on the dining room chairs. She has now graduated from high school and has learned to keep her food in her mouth and give the chairs a rest. After 18 years of abuse, my dining room chairs need upholstered very badly.
