Mount Vernon Amoco, at 8263 Richmond Hwy. has been in business
at the same location and with the same ownership since 1972.
It takes a lot of community trust for a business to stay around
that long.
Owner, Bob Rospendowski, places a great emphasis on the kind
of relationship his station maintains in the area. Not only is
he known for the quality service and products his station provides,
but he also takes pride in his support of local community events
such as summer-time car washes.
The staff has made a commitment to the business, as well.
Mechanic Mike Marquez and cashier Helen Carter have been there
for nine years. Cashier Tracy McGee has been with the company
for nearly six years. And Chris Rospendowski, Bob's son, is the
newest addition as an attendant.
Earl Painter has been at Mount Vernon Amoco for five years
and with other service stations in the area for decades before
that. Bob says "everyone in the area knows Earl. He has
an excellent reputation."

Mount Vernon Amoco, as a business also has an excellent reputation
that starts with the inclusion of "Amoco" in its name.
Bob says "I believe in Amoco and its products." He
says, "I know a lot of people will say that about their
own brand names, but in the case of Amoco, I really believe it
is one of the best on the market." He ought to know. He's
been affiliated with Amoco since 1964 when he first started working
at a station in Morningside, Maryland. From there he moved up
into the management of a service station, and eight years later
bought the one he now owns -- Mount Vernon Amoco.
As part of his dedication to the customer, Bob tries to keep
the price of gasoline at reasonable prices. Every week he does
a survey of prices at area stations, just to make sure his prices
stay competitive. He says he finds that the prices at Mount Vernon
Amoco stay below the area average figures.
Mount Vernon Amoco is also known for major and minor repairs.
That includes both domestic and foreign cars. They carry most
parts and brands, and what they don't have they can

generally get within about an hour. After all, service is
the name of the game! They want to get you back on the road as
quickly as possible. In most cases you can bring your car in
for maintenance or repair in the morning, and have it back before
the close of business that same day. Towing is also available.
Mount Vernon Amoco even has a special for readers of this
article. If you mention that you read it here, you can get an
oil change, with up to 5 quarts of oil, filter, and lube if applicable,
for just $19.95. They also do Virginia State inspections, clutch
repair, brakes, all sorts of other repairs and air conditioning
service. There are no hassle estimates and warranties for the
work as well.
"Early spring is an excellent time to think about your
air conditioner," says Bob. He says its best to have your
cooling system checked out ahead of time so routine maintenance
can be done. Otherwise you may get stuck in the hottest weather,
when service and repair are at their busiest times.
