Springfield resident David Vanover was
skeptical when he first saw a flyer on the windshield of his
car one day back in 1993. It seemed too good to be true: A local
auto repair shop specializing in imports had just opened. Vanover's
car, a 1974 Mercedes SL-450 convertible, was giving him no end
of trouble but he didn't have time that day to drive 45 minutes
to bring it to the Mercedes dealership. Instead, Vanover took
a chance on the flyer and called Ranjit Singh, owner of Import
Auto Service, Inc. Nine years later, Singh now services all five
of Vanover's vehicles, including that same classic Mercedes.
"When I first called Ranjit about
my car, I was astonished how he could describe the problem I
had been experiencing. Right away, I was confident he would know
how to fix it," says Vanover. "Ranjit doesn't just
fix my cars; he maintains them. He is a skilled master technician
who knows how to repair costly parts, not just replace them.
Import Auto Service does superb work at a fair price," says
Vanover, who has recommended Import Auto Service to more than
a dozen friends and colleagues.
"Ninety percent of our business comes
from recommendations-word of mouth," says Singh. "Some
of our customers even come from other states such as Maryland
to have their cars worked on. One customer moved to Pennsylvania
but still brings his car to us when he's down here visiting relatives,"
says Singh.
Import Auto Service specializes in Volvos
(Singh estimates he has some 600 Volvo customers!) but also services
other imports such as SAAB, BMW, Mercedes Benz and others. Often
Singh will service American-made automobiles because his customers
have more than one car and they want Singh to work on all of
them. He offers a 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee
on the quality of service. Import Auto Service has such a good
record with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), that it is participating
in the BBB's new television campaign scheduled to air on Channel
9 (WUSA) in April.
Singh's customer satisfaction surveys continue
to generate positive responses. One customer called Import Auto
Service "the world's finest and most honest Volvo-Benz repair
facility." Another said: "I tell people all the time
about your shop and how I can drop off my car and don't have
to worry about anything."

Ranjit Singh and his staff
offer complete auto repairs and service to Volvo, BMW, Mercedes,
SAAB and other fine imports.
Import Auto Service is a family owned and
operated business that specializes in preventive, factory scheduled
maintenance. Singh has upgraded machinery and diagnostic scanning
equipment and recently purchased equipment for state emissions
inspection, which will make coming to Import Auto Service even
more convenient for customers. "We will only use quality
OEM parts and can offer the same warranties as dealers on our
parts and labor," says Singh. Import Auto Service provides
new car maintenance and will work with extended warranties. Singh
and his skilled technicians are able to work on nearly anything-from
brakes to transmissions-for both new and used vehicles.
Before opening Import Auto Service, Inc.,
in Springfield, Va., Ranjit Singh had worked for nearly nine
years at a local Volvo specialist. He received automotive training
and his ASE certification in the U.S. but also spent many years
working and training overseas, including in his native country
of India.
