Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Groups allow families to meet other caregivers to share experiences and caregiving tips while developing coping skills. Caregivers and family members are invited to visit these free programs, which are facilitated by trained group leaders. A support group meets at 10 a.m. the first and third Friday of the month at the Mount Vernon Adult Day Care Program (8850 Richmond Hwy., Alexandria); and at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Neighborhood Resource Center (1086 Elden St., Herndon). Arthritis Foundation
The Arthritis Foundation sponsors fibromyalgia/arthritis support groups and programs throughout the Washington area. Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America
The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America has a goal of assisting asthma and allergy sufferings in successfully managing and controlling their disease through the support of education, referrals and research. More than 20 percent of Americans suffer from some form of allergic disease, and asthma is the most prevalent chronic, incurable condition affecting children, according to AAFA. Eli Lilly & Co.
Eli Lilly & Co. offers a drug discount card to aid low-income Medicare recipients with the rising cost of drugs. The LillyAnswers Card allows eligible individuals to obtain a 30-day supply of certain Eli Lilly retail drugs for $12. Eye Care America
EyeCare America's mission is to reduce avoidable blindness and severe visual impairment by raising awareness, educating and facilitating eye care for the public. Since its founding in 1980, EyeCare America has helped over 650,000 medically underserved and financially disadvantaged people receive eye care, at no out of pocket expense , through its public service programs.

Fairfax Area Agency on Aging
The Fairfax Area Agency on Aging's Web site includes Area Agency on Aging programs, adult protective services, care network for seniors, employment services, Fairfax Area Commission on Aging information, frequently called numbers for services for older adults, home care, Pets on Wheels, regional programs, senior center information and volunteer opportunities and services. Fairfax County Health Dept. Flu Vaccines
During the flu season, Fairfax County Health Dept. offices offer flu and pneumococcal vaccines for adults age 65 and older and children or adults with chronic cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a written physician's order for either vaccine. The vaccine will reduce a person's chances of getting the flu or lessen its severity if infection does occur. Protection begins about two weeks after receiving the vaccine. Medicare Part B (non-HMO) will be accepted; Medicaid will be accepted only for those with chronic illness. Fairfax Relay for Life
The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a Community Celebration of Life, dedicated to current and former cancer patients, their families and friends. Relay For Life raises funds to fight cancer while raising awareness about cancer prevention and the programs and services offered by the American Cancer Society. Inova® Health System's Life with Cancer aims to enhance the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing education, information and support. Miracle On Wheels
Miracle on Wheels offers power (electric) wheelchairs to non-ambulatory seniors age 65 and older, usually at no out-of-pocket expense if they qualify. The electric wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair. The service also may be available to the permanently disabled of any age. Narconon provides answers to drug addiction, with free assessment, evaluation and referral services to internationally recognized alternative and traditional treatment facilities. National Kidney Foundation
More than 80,000 men, women and children in the United States wait for organ or tissue transplant every day. Sadly, only one of out three of these patients will ever receive a transplant, due to the critical shortage of organ donors. The National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area asks all Americans to get the facts about organ and tissue donation and sign a Uniform Donor Card. Northern Virginia Community College Dental Hygiene
Northern Virginia Community College provides a convenient, low-cost Dental Hygiene Clinic (Room 109 of the CT Bldg. at NVCC's Annandale Campus, 8333 Little River Tpke., Annandale) operated by carefully supervised students. For an annual fee of $25 for adults and $10 for children under 16, you can receive a year's worth of routine preventive dental hygiene services, including: examination of teeth and gums; scaling and polishing; home care instruction; fluoride applications; diagnostic radiographs; blood pressure screening; oral cancer screening; sealants; nutritional counseling; and periodontal screening.
