When was the last time you had real fried
green tomatoes?
Or had breakfast any time of the day, in a cozy, cottage-like
atmosphere surrounded by warmth, friendliness and antiques? If
you've said "never", or you can't remember, then you
haven't been to Elsie's Magic Skillet in Alexandria - where you
will find all these things and much more!

Elsie Plues, Owner
Elsie Plues is no stranger to the business, having worked
for two previous owners of The Magic Skillet for 21 years. The
last owner sold her the business 16 years ago, she changed the
name to Elsie's Magic Skillet and she's been a hands-on owner
ever since - serving up the best home cooking in the area.
In a day of fast food and franchise restaurants, Elsie's is
a pleasant exception. This old fashioned, no-frills restaurant
offers breakfast all day long and inexpensive daily specials.

Elsie's breakfast menu features a plethora of options: from
a simple scrambled egg with toast to pancakes, omelets, waffles
and French toast. Two of the restaurant's specialties are country
ham and homemade biscuits.
Elsie says one of the most popular breakfast items on the
menu is the French toast, made with extra-thick Texas toast.
Three-egg omelets are another popular option, and they come in
a wide variety. Those with concerns about cholesterol need not
go without as Elsie's will substitute Egg Beaters for a minimal
charge.
The lunch menu consists of hamburgers, submarine sandwiches,
hot and cold sandwiches and a variety of salads. Elsie's soup-of-the-day
is made fresh every day. But be forewarned, making a decision
won't be easy. At Elsie's everything tastes so good.
Make plans to join a friend for a relaxing dinner at the Magic
Skillet. Right down the road from the Multiplex Cinema, the restaurant
is the perfect place for a good meal or appetizers and drinks,
before or after the movie.

Elsie's offers a daily "blue
plate" special for each night of the week. Entrees come
with a choice of potato, vegetable, salad, or coleslaw. Monday's
special is chopped sirloin with grilled onions; Tuesday's is
grilled pork chops; all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs or
homemade meatloaf is Wednesday's special; Thursday's is a choice
of baked or barbecued chicken; Friday's feature is roast turkey
with all the trimmings - dressing, sweet and mashed potatoes,
peas and cranberry sauce - or pot roast with oven browned potatoes
and carrots; and Saturday's special is prime rib.
The regular menu's bounty includes steaks, seafood, barbecued
pork spareribs, pasta, fried and grilled chicken, hamburger platters,
subs and sandwiches. There are children's (age 10 and under)
and senior citizens' menus (for those 60 and older); however,
a 10 percent discount for seniors is available for any menu item.
Desserts of assorted pies and cakes, rice pudding and ice cream
round out the menu. Elsie's also offers a variety of mixed drinks,
wine and beer.

Contrina, Ruth Ann and Mickie are part
of the reason that Elsie's is a such a great place to enjoy the
best home cooking in the area.
Elsie insists she couldn't have made it without her loyal
staff - many of them have been with her for 13 or more years.
Mickie, Janice, Maria, Bonnie, Norman, Ruth Ann, Carol and Catrina
serve Elsie's customers promptly and with good cheer! In the
kitchen Riaz, Jose and Lit. are busy cooking the delicious country/home
dishes. Maria is their buss person and Rafiq and Carlos are dishwashers.
There are smoking and non-smoking sections, a handicap ramp
and the on-site parking is free. VISA, MasterCard, American Express
and Discover are accepted. Sorry no personal checks. Come into
Elsie's today and feel right at home.
