I recently returned to the workforce after 20 years as a homemaker. After graduating from college with a degree in education, I enjoyed a government career with the Social Security Administration until my children were born. During my years as a mother and homemaker, I volunteered in my children’s schools and as a member of the Clifton Community Women’s Club, where I currently hold the position of president.
My favorite Women’s Club project was selling advertising space for the ticket book for our annual homes tour. This project allowed me to use my communication skills, my consumer experience, and my artistic and photographic prowess, while doing community service raising funds for charity.
When my children left for college and I decided to return to the workforce, I sought a career selling advertising space. I find it extremely satisfying talking to business owners about their businesses and giving them an opportunity to reach new consumers with their message. The Buyers Guide’s targeted readership to single family homeowners with higher incomes makes the newspaper the perfect advertising vehicle for home repair companies, service companies, retail establishments, restaurants and professionals.
Since I never go anywhere without my camera, I am able to do mini photo shoots when visiting with merchants, and creatively use the pictures in their ad design. With flexible hours, I am able to succeed as an advertising account manager, while continuing my volunteer work, which will always be close to my heart. I have found the perfect career for me.
